BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9105 black Review

The Blackberry Pearl 9105 3G is a candy bar style phone. To me it looks much like a move towards the consumer market from their traditional route of business and cooperate handsets. But wait! It still has all the usual features expected from a business phone manufacturer like the BB messaging service and push email. The BB Pearl 9105 is a hybrid phone for both business and pleasure. Perfect! Did I mention a pocket friendly handset also?

Blackberry Pearl 9105 Black Review

The 9105 has a traditional style 12 button keyboard a first for Blackberry. Interestingly they have released a similar version the Pearl 3G 9100 in the US featuring full QWERTY. Place your bets please!

By using this keypad Blackberry have reduced the size of the phone significantly compared to the usual wideness of their handsets and PDA devices in general.
We know the phone is small, the screen is a mere 2.5 inches with a resolution of 360 x 400 pixels so doesn’t really compare with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Desire or the new iPhone with its retina display however the Blackberry Pearl 9105 has good contrast and is very clear. The viewing experience just isn’t there if your thinking of doing anything other than send quick e-mails or play some of the basic games, it reminds me of watching movies on my eee pc when I have a 32 inch flat screen.

Best BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9105 Contracts

The BB 9105 Pearl phone features media keys on the top of the handset, very stylish fast forward, rewind, play and pause and a 3.5mm headphone socket on the left side of the handset. Not the best location if you don’t have headphones with a low profile jack. Another side button bellow the miniUSB port is currently a dedicated voice dial button and on the opposite side are volume keys and a camera key all of which are covered by a rubber like film coating there to increase grip. All Blackberries seem to have the Optical TrackPad which is a big improvement from the previous track ball. The trackpad makes surfing the Internet easy and navigating the menu, selecting contacts etc.

Blackberry’s equivalent to T9’s predictive text is impressive and makes composing a message speedy and accurate. Tapping away you might realise it was faster on your old model though with full QWERTY keyboard. They keypads kind of cool looking a wavy horizontal design my only gripe here is the size of the bottom row of keys makes them quite fiddly.
Both the Pearl 9105, 9100 and the Curve 8520 run the latest version of the blackberry bringing updates and tweaks to the phone.

The Blackberry 9105 Pearl comes with the full connectivity package including 3G, Bluetooth, GPS and WiFi 802.11 A, B and N. WiFi N is the latest standard of wireless utilising multiple channels, realistically you wont be using this phone to stream HD or do large transfers but this should speed things up for you.
The camera features 3.2 mega pixel, auto focus and and LED flash which takes reasonable shots for an average camera like this one.
The phone works great as a phone, unsurprisingly. The battery life is brilliant, generally I have found BB to have better performance batteries than other smartphones. After around 80 hours the phone ran out of charge.

All in all: – I like it, it’s a bold move on Blackberry’s behalf losing the keyboard and making the phone more appealing to the average consumer who wants the function of a Blackberry but not the bulk. It’s a phone for business and pleasure which is totally retro but modern.

BlackBerry Curve 9300 [Curve 3G]

BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300
BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300

The new Blackberry curve has been noted as being one of the best smartphones made by Blackberry yet. Unlike most of Blackberries produce the curve 8900 is neither chunky or overweight, the dimensions of this smartphone are spot on coming in at 109 x 60 x 14mm.

The Blackberry Curve 9300 is comfortable and feels natural in the hand, the 2.4 inch TFT 320 * 240 pixel resolution display spanks its predecessor the Blackberry 8900 in every area not just the screen.
The phone comes with a modest 624Mhz processor, making the phone quite nippy and more powerful than the recent Blackberry Bold. Blackberry have included the optical trackpad which is a pleasure to operate smooth and responsive. I am so glad RIM did away with the track ball of previous models!

The blackberry features some new hardware keys for media on the top of the phone ‘play, pause, next and previous’ unusual for a Blackberry business phone but a welcomed change and well implemented. The phone boasts a 3.5mm audio headphone jack and microUSB for charging and pc connection. The handset features WiFi ( supports wireless802.11 n ), Bluetooth, GPS and 3G connectivity the full package.

The Camera comes in at 2megapixel allowing you to capture some good shots but nothing fantastic, video recording is supported on this model and the memory can be increase with MicroSD if you need to store more, your likely to need the additional memory if you take advantage of the iTunes Mp3 library integration Blackberry have incorporated.

On thing I did like about the phone was the satellite navigation mode, Blackberry maps and the turn by turn navigation was useful even though at times due to the small screen difficult to read from where I would usually mount my own SatNav. The things you expect from blackberry the message support is super as always and affords easy integration into the business environment.
The Blackberry Curve 9300 3G is a phone for work and play, a nice balance between the two, the added iTunes and hardware keys make it a good media player. If you have an older Curve then look no further this is worth the upgrade.

Blackberry Curve 8520

Blackberry 8520 Curve
Blackberry 8520 Curve

The Black berry curve 8520 is a very successful and popular entry level phone with the usual fully QWERTY keyboard we have come to expect from Blackberry. The keyboard is comfortable for thumbing and produces emails and SMS quickly as we have come to expect from all blackberries! The trackball has been replaced with a track pad which is pretty decent in comparison to some of the older curves with their temperamental track ball Just swipe your finger across, press in to select menu items! Brilliant!

The chassis of the phone is rubberised and fits one hand nicely for reading blogs, browsing the Internet and checking out BlackBerry Apps World. By default this phone is configured to receive and send a variety of email, from exchange server to Hotmail making it perfect for business on the go.

The curve is designed to complement those who want the business features and a little something extra. This smartphone has dedicated hardware buttons to control the media player volume as well as a standardised 3.5m audio output for headphones or auxiliary. The camera isn’t great at 2megapixel but is capable of taking photos and recording videos.

The memory is expandable up to a massive 32Gb which could store 9600 mp3 songs (..if the phone is capable of indexing all of these is another question).
All in all a lightweight business handset and very reasonably priced on pay monthly and pay as you go. Existing BlackBerry users looking to upgrade will be glad to see the track pad improvements. The 8520 is available in a variety of colours: Purple, Red, Blue, White, Silver and Black.

Blackberry have done it again with the 9700 another beautiful business handset featuring both a touch screen menu and a full qwerty keyboard

Blackberry 9700 Bold

The high-end of Blackberry devices, small for a blackberry the bold has the de facto QWERTY keyboard we have come to love about Blackberries smartphones and a gap between keys makes it easy to compose mails and messages with low typographical error. The 9700 like the Curve 8520 has the new track pad and again a pleasure for the fingers, very sensitive and responsive compared to the track ball of previous models. A widely welcomed upgrade!
The blackberry bold 9700 has a high quality finish with a beautiful titanium chrome chassis paired with piano black front and leathery back a fantastic combination. This phone really feels good in the hand. The display on this phone is 2.6” and features 480 * 360 pixels. Not quite up to the standards of the HTC Desire or Apple iPhone 4 but holds its own. Surfing the web on blackberry seems to be pretty easy all the favourites load nicely: Facebook, BBC News, Twitter.
The camera is 3.2megapixels and allows video recording. Not the best camera out there but does take a good picture once focused, for photos needing extra light the bold 9700 has two LED’s to brighten the picture. I wouldn’t expect to be able to order these in A4 though so keep your compact handy.

The phone has various connectivity options giving you on the go Internet, e-mail where ever you go. Connectivity: 3g, hsdpa, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 and GPS

The blackberry push email service – built for reliability perfect for business users, emails are delivered to your smartphone in real time unlike other services which means no need to keep clicking the ‘send/receive email’ button all emails are encrypted ensuring your private email is safe during the transition.
At the end of the day this phone makes ground on its predecessor blackberry devices but compared to other smart phones just doesn’t match to the iPhone or recent HTC offerings. The best features of this phone: QWERTY keyboard, Blackberry PUSH e-mail and the architecture of this handset.
